I had fun with this. It gave me an excuse to drag out my expressions web book and use it for getting some of the codes that I needed. I have never used notepad, just frontpage and expressions web, so it was a learning experience creating a web page strictly from code. I actually like using the code instead of doing it the way frontpage and expressions web teaches you.

I'm not sure if I would use this as a family web page or not. Facebook and other social pages seem to be a bit easier to use and would allow people to post comments.

I think overall the top level domain I would use is .gov, because this would bring up articles and reports that are posted by the government, and the laws that are in effect about internet privacy.

I like the subject directories. I like how it brought up different search tools to help narrow down your search. I added dmoz.org to my favorites, this I thought was very useful.

Overall I kind of struggled with this. I was having some issues with the .com search in altavista, and trying to reword my search to try and get the results that I wanted.

I chose www.dmoz.org

There I input "Internet privacy" in the search box, that took me to a page where I could click on different links that were related to my topic. On that page I found a link that took me to a web site that was about cyberbulling, which was what I was looking for.

I liked this site, because it gave options on different aspects of the search you typed in.

I chose altavista as my search engine. I chose the following information from each of the top-level domains.

For the .gov domain I chose:
Privacy & Security News Brief
December 15 – December 21, 2007 Vol. 1, No. 11 20 pgs
This article had links of several different articles that all had to do with some type of internet privacy and identify theft.

For my .org domain I chose:
http://www.cba.org/Alberta/PDF/Newsletter-Spring2007.pdf
Law Matters, even though it was a Canadian article the information was good. It followed the A.S.P.E.C.T rules as well. This article too was three years old.

For my .edu domain I chose
http://culaw2.creighton.edu/pdf/library/Collection%20Dev%20Policy%202008%20Final%20Version.pdf

I believe all the articles that I chose for the three domains followed all the A.S.P.E.C.T rules. All had good authority, the sources were good, the purpose was well stated and relevant to what I was looking for, the article was balanced on the information, and all were less than four years old. I chose articles that came either from a university or from a government source.

I had problems finding a good article or web site in the .com domain, I tried everything that I could think of, and every combination that of my search question.

For my search tool, I used altavista.
Five features I found were:

1.You can either search worldwide or just in the United States. Your results of your search can either be in all languages or English or Spanish.

2.You can search by the web, images or by news.

3.There is a settings link that you can click, and it will take you to another screen where you can set your search by however you want.

4.They have a family filter that you can use so you don’t accidently get a questionable web site.

5.In their advanced search you can put in all words, exact phrases, any of these words or even none of these words. You can give it a time frame. Choose the type of format that you want in your results such as pdf. You can have your results come up as either a domain or by URL.

I liked this site. I think I will keep it tucked in the back of my mind, to use later when I need to do more in-depth internet searches.

2. It was written for scholars
3. It has an abstract summary

I chose this article because it address internet pornography and how it is accessed. It also address that our teens are exposed to it as early as ten-year old.

I chose this article because it addressed the issue of how vulnerable our kids are, and they are not even aware of it. How parents and other family members are in the dark about what their kids are actually doing is another reason why I chose this article.

I chose this article because it addresses the access of pornography where our children should feel that they are safe, that is in our own community libraries. It address how the tax payers are using the money we pay in taxes to keep the access to pornographic sites available, and not put on filters so our children are protected from accidently clicking on a porn site

As I was researching this, I became more aware of what my own 15 year old son is exposed to each and every day. It was an eye opener. However, in reading some of these articles I learned what I can do as a parent to keep the exposure down to a minimum. I know that he will be exposed to it no matter what I do, but I can take some precautions.

Over all my experience doing research this way was great. I enjoy the way you can click on the media type for the articles that you want to browse through. As I mentioned before I would chose this type of research the next time that I need to writer either a paper or an article review.

Ok I used the same question as my Black Board post, but this is what my seach would be either way. I think this a good topic to look into, we need to be dilliagent in protecting the innocent, such as children and our elderly.

This was a great learning experience. It was amazing to see that even though I typed the same exact search criteria, each site come up with different results, although two of the sites did come up with one book that was the same. If I could pick one that was the most useful I would have to say that I like our own library. It was just as easy to use a google, and there at least there is some credibility behind the books. Plus if I ever needed the book I can check it out within a day or two, not have to wait for it to be shipped to me and the expense if I needed to buy it.

For my google search, I used Internet Privacy, the author is Connolly, Kevin J., the title is Law of Internet Security, the publisher is Aspen Publishers, New York, NY, the publication date is 2004.

I saw that it that it was a book containing law information. When I clicked on the link to check out the contents, that is when I knew that it seemed to be a creidible book. I liked how the author listed the laws for this topic from every state.

I liked this site. It is so easy to use. When I typed in home pc, I did recognize a lot of the publishers. The Dummies books were easy to spot. When I typed in Internet privacy, the results that I came up with were great. I found a lot more current information, and less on e-commerce privacy.

I also did a search using Internet privacy for home users and that narrowed the list of books even further. I liked how you can give the parameters for the search, such as "Exact Phrase" this narrows the search even further.

At Summit the search term that I used was internet privacy.
the author is Smith, Marcia S. Internet Privacy Overview and Legislation in the 109th Congress, 1st Session. [Washington, D.C.]: Congressional Research Service, Library of Congress, 2006. I couldn't find a call number that we learned about in the tutorials but I did find a OCLC number 137288029. I think that this is a credible source. I think the summit site is a bit confusing. I had a hard time with it. I don't know if it was my internet or if it was the site, things were kind of lagging.

I used Internet privacy as my search term, and it pulled up lots of information. I found one book that addressed exactly what I was looking for. There was only one draw back, the book was published six years ago. I know that some laws have changed since them, in light of recent cyberbulling events.
The author is Jasper, Margaret C. The title is Privacy and the Internet: your expectations and rights under the law. The publisher is Oceana Publishers, Dobbs Ferry NY, 2003. The subject heading is: Data protection--Law and legislation--United States popular works--privacy rights of the United States popular works. it is circulation. The call number is KF1263.C65.J38 2003. I believe that the sources are good, the author has written several books about laws and right. The publisher has published several books on law.

For my question on constitutional rights using the internet, I would use an Academic Encyclopedia, and then look in a popular magazine. Looking up constitutional rights would be the first step in answering that question. Then looking in an internet magazine would solidify the answer.

For the other two questions I would use Academic Journals and again encyclopedias, I might event browse through a couple of magazine articles. I figured the more information you can get on a topic the better informed you are.

When I first started doing research on the internet, I thought that Wikipedia was the way to go. I know that you had to be careful about the information that was on there and would weed through the bad information to get what I needed. Now I really like the Deep web searches like GVRL.

Wikipedia listed brief explanation of what different types of privacy that there are. This would be a good starting point, then go into more details by using deep web searches.

I didn't realize that there was so much information out there. I usually just type in something that I want to research in Google, and then go to Wikipedia, and sometimes some other sources. I liked the GVRL search; it gave me a wider selection on the topic that I chose which was privacy. There were pages of articles.
